    MERIT SYSTEM

    The Personnel Board of Jefferson County (Personnel Board) Merit System is responsible for ensuring fairness and merit in hiring and promotion, avoiding favoritism or political influence. Homewood officers are hired in at Grade 19. Individuals with no college and no previous police experience begin at Grade 19, step 1. Individuals with an Associates Degree or equivalent hours of core study are offered Grade 19, step 2. Those with a four year degree or more begin at Grade 19, step 3.
