Homewood is a suburban community of approximately 8 ½ square miles and 25,000 residents. It is conveniently located in the southern section of the Greater Birmingham-Hoover Metropolitan area. The people of Homewood enjoy a great quality of life with many amenities including an award winning school system, a great variety of retail shopping, quality churches and top- notch city services. The police department offers 24- hour protection and a number of specialized services. It is comprised of over 70 sworn officers and approximately 30 support personnel. The department is encompasses five divisions: Patrol, Criminal Investigations, Administrative, Special Operations and Traffic.
The Patrol Division includes three patrol shifts, the School Resource officers, the DARE officer, and the Communications Center which houses the 911 operations.
The Criminal Investigations Division is comprised of a General Investigative Unit that is responsible for the investigation of crimes against persons, crimes against property, financial crimes and the Community Services Unit. The Department`s Narcotics Unit and Evidence Unit also operate under this Division.
The Administrative Division oversees a wide range of support units. These units include the jail, financial office and records.
The Special Operations Division coordinates the Department`s training and the Motor Scout Unit.
The Traffic Division conducts surveys of traffic patterns and repairs and places traffic signals and signs.
